Riding is freedom. Gear is what keeps it that way.
Gear Police was built by riders who learned the hard way that the right gear isn't optional — it's the difference between walking away and not.
Make every rider harder to hurt.
We started Gear Police because the motorcycle community deserved a resource that told the truth — not one shaped by affiliate commissions or manufacturer relationships. Every review, every guide, every safety recommendation comes from riders who have tested gear in the real world.
Our mission is simple: reduce preventable injuries by helping riders make informed decisions about protective equipment. We believe that knowledge is the most powerful piece of safety gear you can own.
Safety first, always
Every recommendation we make is filtered through one question: does this make riders safer? Commerce never overrides that.
Radical transparency
We disclose every relationship, every test condition, every limitation. If we don't know something, we say so.
Community-driven
Our best content comes from riders sharing real experiences. We amplify those voices and build tools that make it easier.
Standards-based
We reference ECE, DOT, SNELL, and CE certifications because they exist for a reason. We explain what they mean in plain language.
A crash that changed everything.
In 2018, our founder Marcus Webb was hit by a distracted driver on a canyon road outside Austin. He was wearing a $90 helmet he bought because it looked cool. He survived — but barely, and with injuries that took two years to recover from.
During that recovery, Marcus became obsessed with understanding what gear actually works and why. He found that most of the information online was either outdated, sponsored, or written by people who had never actually crashed. So he started writing his own.
What began as a personal blog became a community of thousands of riders who shared the same frustration: the motorcycle industry was great at selling gear, but terrible at helping people choose it. Gear Police exists to fix that.
The team
Every person on the Gear Police team is an active rider. No exceptions.
Marcus Webb
Sport and adventure rider. 14 years on two wheels. Recovered from a serious crash in 2018 that became the origin story of Gear Police.
Priya Nair
Former motorsport safety engineer. Brings a technical lens to every review — if it has a CE rating, she knows what it means and whether it was earned.
Dex Calloway
Long-distance tourer and group ride organizer. Manages our forum, rider stories program, and the community events calendar.
Beyond the website.
Gear Police partners with rider safety organizations, contributes to public awareness campaigns, and advocates for stronger gear certification standards in North America. We believe the industry can do better — and we show up to say so.
Helmet Safety Coalition
Supporting the push for mandatory ECE 22.06 adoption across North American markets.
New Rider Outreach
Free gear consultations and safety workshops for riders in their first year.
Crash Data Research
Partnering with university programs to build better data on gear performance in real crashes.
